Using an anecdote is the most effective way of grabbing the audience attention, so the introduction has an effective "hook", but that's what they are intended to be <em>(attention getters)</em>, once you captivate the audience is time to move to the point, they generally should be reduced to the first 1 to 4 sentences, or may be 5 sentences of the speech as an introduction, just to intrigue the audience; so if the introduction consist of 1 of 5 pages out of the whole speech, then it's probably too long, with the risk of turning the audience against the speaker, <em>(unless is 1 page with giant font-size)</em>.
