The theory of Gerotranscendence was proposed by Swedish pschologist Lars Tornstam. In his theory, Dr. Tornstam argues that as people age, they become less interested in the self (or themselves), and more interested in the "general cosmos", or "flow of life". As a result, they fear death less, become interested in mediation and spiritual awakening, and feel closer to previous generations, whether relatives or not.
