Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

The correct answer is "A patient and scholarly man". This answer is backed up by text in the short story in the last paragraph which states, " He rummaged <em>patiently</em> among the papers......"  The book shelf and the many books in mess suggests that he studies a lot and therefore is probably a well studied scholarly man.
