Why would trying some of Japan’s top military leaders for war crimes trials help accomplish the overall goal of demilitarizing J
apan? A. It would cause Japan to stop fighting and surrender.
B. It would force Japanese soldiers to turn in their guns.
C. It would weaken the prestige of Japan’s military.
All of these answers have merit, but I think C is the correct answer. If the top military leaders, whom of which represent the Imperial Army and Navy were to be put on trial for war crimes, than they are without an integral part of their forces and direction. And they could not rise back up again militarily if they did not have military leaders to begin with.
