Sentence structure can be crafted in certain ways to add rhythm/ pace to the text. For example, an embedded sentence can slow down the pace by adding extra information. A simple sentence can be abrupt, or used to express a short, coherent idea or it can portray something ambiguous.

When Beowulf reaches Herot, he is met by Hrothgar's men who take all weapons from them. They go to Herot with only their shields

Hrothgar's men collected all weapons from Beowulf and his men and allowed them to enter Heorot with only their shields because it was forbidden for a foreigner to enter the King Hrothgar's presence armed.

King Beowulf, hero of the Geats, known for his bravery and valor in war came to the aid of the Danes who had been attacked by the monster Grendel for twelve winters without solution.

Hrothgar, although knowing Beowulf and his entourage did not allow them to enter his palace with their weapons, save their shield, because it was forbidden.
