Explanation:

Milwaukee is Wisconsin's largest city, situated along the western shore of Lake Michigan. It is also one of the largest cities to be ever occupied by immigrants, instead of Americans.

Though Milwaukee had been experiencing influx of immigrants, it increases more by the 19th century. The German population helped majorly in this increase. The German residents of this city was such that there were more German newspapers than English ones. This eventually led to Milwaukee being called the "German Athens" in America.
