So,

We can re-write these statements in mathematical form.

Let h represent Holly and j represent Julia.

First equation: h + j = 107

Second equation: h = 35 +  \frac{1}{2} j

This is our System of Simultaneous Linear Equations.

I'll solve.

Substitute
(35 +  \frac{1}{2} j) + j = 107

Collect Like Terms
35 + \frac{3}{2} j = 107

Subtract 35 from both sides
\frac{3}{2} j = 72

Multiply both sides by \frac{2}{3}
j = 48

Substitute 48 for j in the first equation
h + 48 = 107

Subtract 48 from both sides
h = 59

Check
59 + 48 = 107
107 = 107 This checks.

59 = 35 + \frac{1}{2} (48)
59 = 35 + 24
59 = 59 This also checks.

Holly scored 59 points and Julia scored 48 points.

Eli started saving money in his empty piggy bank. He inserted $1 on every Monday, $2 on every Tuesday, $3 on every Wednesday, $4
Tanzania [10]

Answer:

Tuesday

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Monday: $1

Tuesday: $2

Wednesday: $3

Thursday: $4

Friday: $5

Saturday: $6

Sunday: $7

And after 24 days he had $93

____

So lets convert 24 days into weeks. A week has 7 days we divide 24/7 and get 3.42857 weeks or just have it as 3 weeks and 3 days.

24 days = 3 weeks and 3 days

Now we want to know how much does Eli make in 1 week, we add all the numbers 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 28

Eli makes $28 in one week. And (28x3) in three weeks which is $84.

Now that we know that Eli made $84 in three weeks, we have three days left - now we calculate the difference.

93 - 84 = 9

Now these 9 dollars are split into three days. This means he started on Tuesday since Saturday is $7 and Monday is $1 and that sums it up to $8 and the first dollar was placed in his piggy bank on a Tuesday.

Keisha runs 6 miles in 45 minutes. At the same rate, how many minutes would she take to run 4 miles?
Zina [86]

Answer:

30 min

Step-by-step explanation:

She takes 45 minutes to run 6 miles.

Lets simplify this. If we divide by 3, then we know that:

She takes 15 minutes to run 2 miles.

Therefore, to find the amount of time it takes to run 4 miles, we just multiply 15 by 2.

Therefore it takes her 30 mins to run 4 miles.
