The establishment of forts across the west part of Mississippi river, specially in the territory of the recently acquired Louisiana intended to protect the advance of the colonists. Also, with this forts the authorities pretended to have outposts and checkpoints to keep colonizing the wild territories in the far West.
Wih this military posts, the colonist would have protection against the indian gribes and could start new expeditions in order to keep expanding the frontier to the West.
