The Geneva Conventions operate under the just war doctrine, which attempts to make war morally permissible. The Geneva Conventions work to make war a more humane experience.Chemical and biological weapons, perhaps more than traditional weapons, produce particularly inhumane results. They often do not kill a person, but instead leave the person badly burned, unable to breathe, or unable to see. These effects are considered to be cruel and unusual acts of punishment and violence. Why did the Confederacy pass the Conscription Acts?
valentinak56 [21]

The confederacy passed the conscription act because the army needed more people to serve in the army as the number of volunteers declines and the number of casualties increased.

Explanation

At the beginning of the civil war, both the confederate states and the union army did not use conscription but in the later years the war took a violent turn.People hesitated to join the army and the number of soldiers in the confederate army decreased visibly.

In order to avoid defeat in the war, the confederate army wanted more men to join it and they enacted the act of conscription which made it necessary for all white men between the age of 18 and 35 to serve in the confederate army if called.

Why did the church support the geocentric theory
harkovskaia [24]

The Geocentric theory or model proposed that the Earth was the center of the universe and the Sun rotated around it. Religion played a big role throughout history in trying to perpetuate this scientifically erroneous idea, which started appearing as a biblical perspective pointing towards specific passages in the holy book. A classic one would be Psalms 93:1, in which Earth is described as a static place "established, firm and secured". The church's support of geocentrism can be traced back to literal intepretations of the bible and a refusal to lose credibility and power as science proved them wrong.

Hope this helps!
