I don't know if I fully understood your question, but I understood it as: which of the two—speed or velocity—are more helpful to a pilot?

Speed is just distance over time. It shows how far the pilot can go in a given amount of time. Velocity is almost the same, except it gives the direction in which the pilot is moving.

Because velocity gives more information than speed, velocity would be more helpful to a pilot.
