Is there anything about Tea Cake that is negative about his character? What is one?

English
1 answer:
lyudmila [28]4 years ago

This question refers to the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Tea Cake is Janie's true love and someone who cannot be easily labelled as goor or bad. Janie's impression of him (and that of the reader) is mostly good, as Tea Cake is sweet to Janie, confident, and brave. He is also the kindest out of her husbands, and the one who cares for her the most.

However, Tea Cake is not perfect, and he has some negative traits. An example of a negative trait is that he can be irresponsible with money. Tea Cake often takes the money that Janie has put aside and spends it on unnecessary things. He then tries to win it back by gambling, which is not a responsible decision.

Answer:

“It took us an hour to paddle over to the other side of the lake and back” uses a transitional word that best indicates a shift from one timeframe to another.

Explanation:

Transitional word is a connector which connects two separate sentences into one. In the given example, the sentence exactly conveys a meaning that it took one hour to paddle from one side to other and vice versa. Mostly transition words are conjunctions that combines words, phrases or clauses. These transition words can be used within a single sentence. They can also used to combine two different sentences or even paragraphs.
