The interior of the Sun can be differentiated into three regions, on the basis of the kind of conduction of energy that is in action. These are the core, the radiative zone, and the convection zone.  

The convection zone refers to the uppermost layer of the interior. It elongates from a height of 200000 kilometers to the visible surface of the Sun. The energy is conducted by the process of convection in this area. The photons of light are created on the surface of the convection zone, that is, why this uppermost layer is also known as the photosphere.
