The green light symbolizes ambition, desire, and longing. This is the longing to belong to a different class, a different life, a different identity. The book ends with an image of boats beating against the current, desperately striving to reach something (like the green light across the harbor) even as the current carries us back and back to where we came from.

The witness's voice was steady and firm as she averred, "That is the man I saw."
Agata [3.3K]

If we imagine ourselves in the scene in which the witness speaks with a firm and confident voice saying "that is the man I saw", the most probable thing is that it convinces us because she is very sure of herself, the witness does not doubt it for a moment, she/he is stating it.

The word averred can be replaced by stated since they have the same meaning. Other synonims can be claim, declare or affirm.

Read lines 85-86 from the poem "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and answer the question. And I have seen the eternal Footma
nadezda [96]

Answer:

Gloomy and Decay

Explanation:

In this poem, T S Eliot presents disillusion and physical inertia of modern life. The eternal footman is someone who waits while holding the coats of visitors. But this footman may be doom or death and may be the giver may nor return. Hence, the footman snickers, which is a half-suppressed, scornful laugh, rather than a normal laugh since he knows the person whom coat he is holding may not return back as in the case of a visitor who enters a building for entertainment or work.
