Well, a more intuitive way to think about it would be to simply disregard the decimal portion entirely. What I mean by this is, when you have something like 24.61*3.14, you should just multiply 2461*314. Decimals are pretty abstract starting on, and actually understanding where the decimal place comes from helps build intuititon.

In our example, we've moved the decimal place of 24.61 2 units to the right, and same with 3.14. That means we have 4 extra decimal places to think about at the end of the problem. So, just multiplying 2461 and 314 gives us: 772754. Now, we start at the right most position (just before the 4), and we count 4 spaces tot he left. That means we place our new decimal point at in between the 2nd seven from the left and the two to give us 77.2754 as our answer.

Decimals are really just place holders. If we take away the decimal and remember our place, we never really have to work with them with things that don't repeat ad infinitum (things like pi).

Hi so the easiest way you can do it is

Step 1:Multiply normally, ignoring the decimal points put the decimal point in the answer.

Step 2: then put the decimal point in the answer - it will have as many decimal places as the two original numbers combined. Hope that help!

You plan to take a 7-day trip to California. You estimate that it will cost $275 per day to visit Los Angeles, and $400 per day
Viktor [21]

Answer:

You can spend 4 days in Los Angeles and 3 days in San Francisco.

Step-by-step explanation:

From the information given, you can write the following equations:

x+y=7 (1)

275x+400y=2,300 (2), where:

x is the number of days to visit Los Angeles

y is the number of days to visit San Francisco

First, you can solve for x in (1):

x=7-y (3)

Now, you can replace (3) in (2):

275(7-y)+400y=2,300

1,925-275y+400y=2,300

125y=2,300-1,925

125y=375

y=375/125

y=3

Finally, you can replace the value of y in (3) to find x:

x=7-3

y=4

According to this, the answer is that you can spend 4 days in Los Angeles and 3 days in San Francisco.
