6. The author uses actions, thoughts, and speech to reveal character traits to an audience.

In indirect characterization, the character's traits are indirectly revealed meaning that the audience must use details from the piece to infer the character's traits. An example of this would be how Scrooge does nothing but count money and talk about how he can get more money. It shows that he is miserly and greedy. Direct characterization is when the author specifically tells you a character's traits. An example would be if Dickens had said, "Scrooge is a greedy, miserly old man."

7. characters' thoughts and actions, characters' appearances and ways of dressing, AND characters' responses to each other.

These can all indirectly characterize a character on stage. Characters are indirectly characterized through their Speech, Thoughts, Actions, Effects on others, and Looks. The acronym STEAL can help you remember this is how we STEAL a glimpse into the character's traits.

8. setting and plot, characters and dialogue, stage directions

According to Aristotle, the six elements of drama are plot, character, thought, diction, spectacle, and song.

9. The dramatic structure of A Doll's House has three acts, or plot divisions.

Dramatic structure refers to  the actual organizational structure of the play.
