The hundreds of itinerant preaching that emerged with the First Great Awakening toured the 13 colonies preaching repentance of<u><em> sins and the new birth</em></u>. A clear example is Jonathan Edwards, pastor and American theologian of Calvinist origin. This pastor changed the style of preaching and above all the message, stating that mere church attendance or church membership did not guarantee salvation. Salvation was the result of a decision people followed by man's repentance of their sins.

The main thing is that they believed that there was not enough effort to enforce the legislation that guarantees their rights.  Firstly the desegregation was not enforced and many schools, especially, in the north were really segregated.  The blacks were also paid less and did not have equal access to mortgages.
