"Only help her to believe – help make it so there is cause for her to believe that she is more than this dress on the ironing board, helpless before the iron."

"She was dark and thin and foreign-looking in a world where the prestige went to blondness and curly hair and dimples, slow where glibness was prized."

"So all that is in her will not bloom – but in how many does it?"

"I was nineteen. It was the pre-relief, pre-WPA world of the depression."

What does it mean when they say your upbringing is determined by nature? What about nurture?
larisa [96]

Answer:

When it is said that a person's upbringing is determined by nature, it means that the upbringing or training of a person/child is pre-determined by his genes and natural inclinations.

Ocassionally, nurture plays a huge part too in a person's upbringing as it is as important as nature if not more important.

This is because, if a child inherits quick temper from his parents, he is always at risk of easily losing his temper on someone or something. However, nurture can also help curtail that if there is an enabling environment where it is not allowed to thrive.

In lines 276-278 the knight moans
Vinil7 [7]

Answer: She said that he should have respect

Explanation:

The knight is not satisfied because he has the old woman for his wife and she is also someone who is not from a wealthy family. She is responding to that, that he should know that real wealth is not coming from someone else's finances, real wealth should be about a persons' character.

When they were talking about her age, he said to him that he should have respect because of that and her age should earn his respect. She was also saying that her ugliness should show him that she could not have a lover or do something to him behind his back.
