Answer:

#8 Gift Of The Magi (Jim's Perspective)

October 20, 2015

“What am I going to get my dear for Christmas?” Jim was walking to work, it was the day before Christmas. He had nothing to get his wife Della. He had been saving all year and had come up with 5 dollars. Expenses had been more than he expected. He wanted to get her the combs in the shop they loved going window shopping at, though they always got kicked out for never buying anything. They were very expensive combs.

He wanted to skip work to spend the day buying her a present. He decided if he wanted to live he should go. All though he had a 15 minute lunch break by law he never ate, though they never had enough money. 20 dollars a week never went far. He took out his watch, 13 minutes. Thirteen minutes to buy Della a present. He felt his watch in his tattered jacket. He knew what he had to do.

He went into an old gold and silver shop. There was an old man sitting on a stool.

“Will you buy my watch?”

“Let me see it first” Jim pulled out the watch and showed the man.

“Fifty dollars” The man said staring at it.

“Deal, make it quick.” The man nodded and started counting out money. They traded the money for the watch.

He worked a long day and was happy to go home and see his beautiful Della with her long hair. Which had reminded him he needed to buy her present. How could he forget? Quickly he ran to the shop the combs were at, bought them, and walked home. When he got to the flat door he stood there for a minute, gathered his breath, and walked inside. Della, His Della, was sitting there on the table. Her hair cut short. All he could do was stand there. He couldn’t even hear the words Della was saying.

“You do like my hair...don’t you Jim?” He finally heard.

He just started laughing. He sat down on the couch with his head in his hands and laughed.

“Of course I do Della.” Jim said. “It’s just-” He handed her the box. She opened it and saw the beautiful combs.

“Oh Jim….” She hugged him. “I sold my hair to get your present.” She handed him a box. Open it, see what it is. He opened the box and it was a silver chain.

“It’s for your watch.” Della said. Now it’ll be so pretty you’ll never be able to stop looking at the time!

“Oh but Della.” Jim said. “I sold my watch to get your combs.

WINSTONCH [101]

There was a booming knock at the door and a loud shout. " Open up! " From inside came the rattle of a lock, and then the door opened barely half an inch. A woman, dishevelled and clearly shaken, peered through hesitantly. " Can I help you? " Detective Stirland loomed large before her. He flipped his ID badge. " Where's Joe, Mandy? " " What's this about? " she stammered. Stirland applied his weight to the door and the woman stepped backwards as it swung open. " I'll ask the questions. We know he's here. " Her eyes flitted from his face to the lounge door and back. " Joe! " She folded her arms defiantly, reluctantly. " Joe, you'd better come out. The police are here. "
