The amendment provides procedure to the United States Constitution for electing the President and Vice President replacing Article 2. The 12 amendment allows smaller states to have equal influence in the Electoral College.

What I was taught by my teacher was, secondary sources often provided insight not always into what happened, but how it was perceived. On the knowledge of how something was perceived helped historians to understand why a certain reaction to an issue occurred. This may not be the answer you're looking for but this is what I learned.
