What were the causes and effects on the Boston Tea Party

The Boston Tea Party happened on December 16, 1773. It was when the people of Boston, particularly The Sons of Liberty, dumped tea into Boston harbor. They did it to protest the unfair taxes, such as the Stamp Act (the British repealed the Stamp Act before the Boston Tea Party) and the tax on tea. The colonists dressed like Mohawk Indians and boarded three ships called the Dartmouth, the Eleanor, and the Beaver. They dumped tea that was worth about £10,000. No one tried to stop them, not even a British officer watching from his window (he noticed too)!

Cause: Patriots were angry because they didn’t have a voice in Parliament and they therefore thought the laws and taxes were unfair. They hoped this action would make the British repeal the tea tax.

Effect: The British responded by closing Boston harbor. They did not repeal the tea tax. They also passed the Intolerable Acts. The Boston Tea Party also stirred up a rebellious feeling in the colonies. This was the start of the Revolutionary War.
