In SQ3R, before closely reading the text, the student should do the following two steps:
1- look for keywords and ideas
2- create a set of questions

This is important because; one of the main goals of SQ3R is only remembering key fact and ignoring any unimportant text. Following the SQ3R methods, students get to improve their absorption and retention of information by 50-60 percent.

  • Interpret - That is what the green light means in the novel. It represents Gatsby's unattainable dream of being with Daisy.
  • Assess - We can rate this metaphor of the green light a 10 out of 10.
