She was known for writing poems which has single theme but were different from each other. Theory of Flight is a poem written by Rukeyser on the war.

This poem depicts the theme of the Rebellious temper that prevailed at the American campuses and the mindset of youth. The first line of one of her poems is I lived in the first century of world wars, this poem throws a light on her ideology behind social justice, feminism, and political overview.
