In Beowulf, the Anglo-Saxon hero is well defined by the actions of Beowulf. It is obvious that Beowulf is the quintessential hero. His strength and courage are unparalleled, and he is much more humble (and honorable) than many of the corrupt warriors around him. Based on his bravery, strength, and loyalty, Beowulf exhibits many admirable traits valued by Anglo-Saxon warrior culture. Beowulf is an Anglo-Saxon poem in which the epic hero Beowulf saves Hrothgar and his people from the tribulations which had beset them. ... He is selfless, proud, brave, and loyal.

Valentin [98]
Well, despite his high achievements, Napoleon was quite a miserable person (according to his appearance and complexes). Looking on the David's painting, we can see the brave man filled with courage, who points up his finger towards the sky, showing he's ready to reach the victory whereas in the Delaroche's picture Bonaparte is portrayed like exhausted man with desperate and sleazy look. The main point is that he's not a superman, he's just a MAN, so Delaroche's painting is more realistic because he treats emperor as a normal human with its lacks.
