Beowulf has all the characteristics of the epic genre. It is written in a lofty style and emphasizes the theme of heroism. The hero has several superhuman qualities.

 • Beowulf, prince of Geats, reflects the characteristics of a true hero. Through his two phases of life- young and age, poem exemplifies his heroism. In his youth, he was characterized as courageous and full of strength. He embodied perfect characteristics of Germanic heroic code. He establishes himself as a hero when he purges Denmark of its plague. In the second phase, Beowulf conforms himself as both king and the warrior. He is able to defeat three frightful monsters. Therefore, for the sake of his ideals, he was willing to stake his life and saved people from evil or those who were in great need.
 • Lofty style refers to the style of writing in which something is described that is above the ground or referring to someone who considers itself high above everyone.Through the use of lofty style, it makes the text thrilling and exciting and heightens the epic's captivating power and importance.
 • Also, the epic contains many supernatural elements which increase the dramatic effects through the portrayal of superhuman in the epic. For instance, at the beginning of the story, Beowulf rips off the arms of Grendel when he comes to attack the palace.

In the book thief which of liesel’s human rights are violated and how do they change her character
erica [24]
Throughout The Book Thief there are numerous civil rights offenses, as it takes place during a time where discrimination and intolerance were common. The right to privacy, a safe place to live, and unfair imprisonment were violated often during World War II. The main character, Liesel, experiences life different from many of the Jewish people who were mistreated by Nazis, yet she still experiences hardship. Liesel explores the violations she's felt against her freedom of expression during this story. The beginning of this story gives us a sad, abandoned Liesel that has experienced the loss of her family. Through learning to read with her foster father, Liesel begins to understand the power of words and how they can be used to hurt or to help others. As she witnesses injustices the Nazis deliver and how it affects Jewish people, Liesel seeks revenge on Hitler and wants to take away some of what he is destroying. She changes from someone filled with hate and pain to someone with compassion who finds a positive way to help others and express herself. Liesel writes a book to describe the pain she has experienced and witnessed, which helps not only serve justice to those who have been mistreated but also as an outlet for her freedom of expression.
