The term "Hun" was coined during World War I, by the allied forces for Germans. The term dates back to Wilhem II's "Hun speech" delivered on July 17th, 1900, where he bade farewell to the German expeditionary corps sailing from Bremerhaven to defeat the Boxer Rebellion.  

Later on, August Bebel, a German socialist politician gave a speech in the Reichstag, which really started the them e of "Hunnic savagery." The term "Hun" was later used by Allied forces propaganda, and especially by British forces. This propaganda portrayed the Germans as barbarians, and savages.
