<span>The correct answer is King Henry VIII. King Henry VIII broke with the Catholic Church because he wanted to divorce his first wife when she did not give him a son. He had fallen in love with anothe woman and wanted to marry her. The Pope would not grant him a divorce from his first wife, however. Answer:

King Henry VIII

Explanation:

In England the king conflicted with the Catholic Church. Henry VIII broke with the papacy using personal problems: intended to undo his marriage to Catherine of Aragon to marry Anne Boleyn, claiming to want an heir to the throne of England.

As Catherine was an aunt of Charles V, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, then at war with Luther, he did not grant the annulment, so as not to clash with Charles V, his religious ally. In 1534, Henry VIII officially broke with the Church of Rome by publishing in Parliament the Act of Supremacy, document by which he became head of the Church in England, later called Anglican. Excommunicated by the pope, Henry VIII, in reprisal, confiscated the assets of the Catholic Church in England.
