An artistic movement that emerged in the United States during the later phase of the 19th and the early phase of the 20th century and is known as the Ashcan School. This movement is most popular for the works that portray the daily life scenes of New York. This school is generally associated with a group called "The Eight", though only five people belonging to the group (Henri, Sloan, Glackens, Luks, and Shinn) were the Ashcan painters.
