The correct answer is "The women discuss Hester's sentence".

The Scarlet Letter: A Romance, is a work of historical fiction written by American author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Her sentence required her to stand on the scaffold for three hours, exposed to public humiliation, and to wear the scarlet "A" for the rest of her life. Hester refuses to say the name of her father's child.

Read this excerpt from "Hope, Despair, and Memory" by Elie Wiesel and answer the question. The survivors wanted to communicate e
Aloiza [94]

Answer:

The literary device used in the above excerpt best establishes immediacy and sense of place commentary and existentialism.

This passage heightens the sense of immediacy and reinforces the idea that something happening at the present moment. This is demonstrated in the question ¨Can I cry, now?¨

The sense of place was established at the very beginning and it is directly connected to immediacy as well as commentary.

Finally existentialism, the author composed a piece of literature that contains, to varying degrees, elements of existential or proto-existential thought.

Directions Your task is to take some time to reflect on the questions presented below and then write responses to each question.
Lesechka [4]

I would think these are more opinion based questions that you'd have to answer based on your lifestyle, but nonetheless I like answering these type of questions! Here are my answers based on things I personally like doing. Hope this could be of help:

1: I often like to write, listen to music, and play sports in my free time.

2: I enjoy writing because it is a way for me to escape all the pressures from the day, reflect, and talk to myself about how I'm feeling or things I'm upset about. I always listen to music because I prefer it over watching TV and you can relate to more songs than TV shows. I also love music because there are millions of songs and plenty of genres to choose from, but you always find others who enjoy the same music you like, and it becomes a way to bond with others. I play sports with my friends as a way to get in my weekly workout or let off some steam. Doing all three of these activities are a way to better myself and reflect so that I don't get overwhelmed with stress.

3: I have to wash the dishes at home every night because it leaves me little time to do my homework and do personal things such as writing or listening to music. I also don't really like doing my homework.

4: I still do the dishes because I have to realize there are others who don't have a plate to eat off of but I do. I also still do my homework because I don't want to get a bad grade.

5: I motivate myself by thinking of what I can do after. Like after I do the dishes, I can finally do my homework. After I do my homework, I'll get a good grade and it'll pay off for my transcript.

6: Some hobbies are things I'm just good at and they're just my style. I consider myself a writer who appreciates good books, poetry, and song lyrics. But if I had to do something like drawing, I'm not a very good artist, so I wouldn't enjoy doing it.

7: I enjoy history and English the most because I consider them the most useful in the real world. Yes, our math teacher may say that the things we'll learn are going to help us, but why not learn things like how to file taxes? History is something I can teach to my kids and refer to when I'm old, and English is the most useful because it broadens my vocabulary and teaches me things like how to write a proper email with all the correct grammar, apply for jobs, and submit essays.

8: I don't think there are any classes I don't want to take at all, I just don't like math or science.

9: Doing well in classes that other students don't do as well in makes me more proud that I went above the average. But I also expect to do better in the subjects I like, because it becomes easier to study them.

10: I get mostly A's and B's (Here I think you should put your actual grades).

11: I think my effort levels depend on how I'm feeling emotionally and physically. For me, every time I come towards the end of a semester, I start to get tired and slack off a bit. Or if I am tired I'll go to sleep and wait to finish my work because sometimes sleep is much more important.

12: My parents expect that I get good grades, but I think it matters if I actually tried. So if I don't do any assignments, I can't expect to get a great grade.

13: (refer to number 12)

14: I reward myself by doing something fun or a treat. I'll play a game I don't normally play because I don't have time, I'll have some ice cream, or I'll go see a movie.

15: I'm inspired to do good from both good and bad examples. People like Ryan Coogler who directed "The Black Panther" is a great success story and when I see people like him I have hope for what I can become. However, when I see students who aren't doing as good of a job, I just think to myself how I don't want to be stuck in situations like them. I want to have all the colleges I apply to say yes instead of rejection, so I do everything I can right now to make sure that won't happen.

16: I like people to reward me simply through acknowledgement. Telling me I did a great job is enough of a reward for me. But I could always take food as a reward too!
