Chandragupta, founder of the Mauryan empire (321-297 bce) is remembered as the first emperor to unify most of India under one administration.

He created the first Indian Empire (Mauryan) mainly by following Kautilya Chanakya's advise, his wise chief advisor and considered one of the greatest tacticians of all time.

In 322 BCE, he accomplished to take control of the Magadha kingdom (a realm that controlled most of Northern India, which was ruled by the Nanda dynasty). Even though he had a small army (mercenary soldiers mainly) he gained victory by using ingenious strategies such as planning administrative schemes that included an effective secret service, securing public support and he triggered a civil war using Kautilya Chanakya’s intelligence network.

With his courage and Chanakya’s intelligence, the Mauryan Empire became one of the most powerful governments at that time, and even extended to Northern India from the Indus River in the west to the Bay of Bengal in the East.
