Adam Smith implies that  "care and concern for the less fortunate" is an important value for society as a whole.

Adam Smith (1723-1790) was a Scottish economist that established the principles of Capitalism in his book "The Wealth of Nations" in 1776. He suggested that the economic level of a country should be measured by its production and trade, instead of reserves of gold. Although he had Capitalist beliefs, he considered that care and concern for the less fortunate was an important value for society as a whole.
