A major action that showed Napoleon's strong enlightenment ideals was the development of schools and universities that were accessible to the middle class.
During his time, pushing education forward was definitely a revolutionary idea. Back in 1808, the state started controlling the educational system by keeping close track of teachers' performance as well as making modifications in the curriculm of studies.
Before Napoleon's involvement, the Catholic church managed education, which denied middle class folks from accessing higher standards of secular tutelage that weren't tinted by religion.
