There was a lack of safety regulations. The machines were also not so safe to use. Everything was more dangerous and the workers were not protected properly.

Machines of the Industrial Era lacked any safety features that would prevent bodily harm to the workers.

Workers in factories faced machines with open moving parts that workers could get caught in. Workers lost digits and limbs in machines leaving them unable to work. Children were often hurt going under machines to pick up pieces that had fallen. The meatpacking industry was particularly dangerous with open grinders. Mining also posed threats to falling in a shaft or mines falling in on miners. The factories also lacked ventilation, open doors, fire stairs, and other safety features that are now common.
