Vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone, is a peptide hormone produced in the neurons of the hypothalamus. Then, through these neurons axons, it travels to the posterior pituitary where it will be stored in vesicles and released <em>when extracellular fluid decreases and osmolality increases. </em>

Vasopressin main function is to stimulate the kidney to reabsorb solute-free water when osmolality increases.  Also, it increases peripheral vascular resistance due to the constriction of arterioles, and as a result, it raises blood pressure.
