Only after deciding what the main point is going to be can a speaker construct his/her speech, be it a long or a short one. Since every speech should have at least three parts (introduction, body, and conclusion), the main idea will help determine what to address in each of these parts. Of course, from the main idea it is possible to derive some smaller topics to be developed, but they should never lose their connection to the central point in discussion. In summary, knowing what he/she truthfully intends to talk about will help the speaker to structure and develop the speech properly. Study the example below:

-Main idea: defend a vegetarian lifestyle;

-Introduction: establish a relationship between diseases and the consumption of meat;

-Body: detail how a vegetarian lifestyle can be an alternative by referring to health studies and even telling a personal experience;

-Conclusion: repeat the main idea in a short manner, inviting the audience to live a healthier life from now on.
