The Montgomery Bus Boycott was an event for civil rights. Buses used to be segregated. The whites sat in front and the blacks in the back. Rosa Parks, a colored person, was sitting in the back and refused to move to the back because she was tired. She was forcefully moved from her seat and arrested. Black people all over the South started to sit in the front and refused to move after this incident. They eventually were forcefully moved off the bus and a few were arrested.

In 1649, a civil war broke out over who would rule England—Parliament or King Charles I. The war ended with the beheading of the king. Shortly after Charles was executed, an English philosopher, Thomas Hobbes (1588–1679), wrote Leviathan, a defense of the absolute power of kings. The title of the book referred to a leviathan, a mythological, whale-like sea monster that devoured whole ships. Hobbes likened the leviathan to government, a powerful state created to impose order.
Growing tensions mostly resulted due to high taxes, obligatory housing of British soldiers, unfair rule and treatment of the colony's citizens, and basically everything else that was unjust and resulted in the Boston Tea Party.
