Answer:

The earth is comprised of different layers. These rock layers are characterized by its various components.

These layers are arranged below from the outermost layer to the innermost layer-

Crust < Asthenosphere < Lower mantle < Outer core < Inner core

The outermost layer that contains the earth's surface is the crust.

The asthenosphere is the region that covers a portion of the upper mantle and below the lithosphere and the crust. It is the region where the rocks are solid but they behave in a plastic manner and the rocks can flow during deformation.

Lower mantle is below the upper mantle and above the outer core. Here the convection current generates due to the internal heat that forces the plates to move over the asthenosphere layer.

Outer core is liquid in nature whereas the inner core is solid in nature and both are comprised of heavy elements like nickel (Ni) and iron (Fe). The density of the inner core is higher than the outer core.

Highly withered and unwithered rock can be distinguished by following characteristics:

1. Physical structure: There will be no change in the structure of unwithered rock but structure of highly withered rock will change after the withering process.

2. Chemical composition: The withering process will remove surface and internal minerals present in rock. In unwithered rock the surface and internal mineral composition will remain unchanged but in highly withered rock the surface and internal minerals present in rock will be removed, which change the overall chemical composition of the rock.
