Explain the changes that were made to the day of reconciliation (16 December)
Vedmedyk [2.9K]

Reconciliation Day is a public holiday in South Africa held annually on December 16. The holiday came into force in 1994, after the end of apartheid, with the intention of promoting reconciliation and national unity of the country.

When apartheid ended, it was decided to keep December 16 as a public holiday, but to infuse it "with the aim of promoting reconciliation and national unity." The celebration was created by the government in 1994. Nelson Mandela was part of the group of politicians who helped start the holiday idea. On December 16, 1995, the first celebration took place. The first meeting of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission was also held on December 16, 1995. In a speech in 1995, Archbishop Desmond Tutu described the holiday as intended for the need to heal the wounds of apartheid.

What cause the retaliation of red cloud and the Sioux Indians?
BARSIC [14]

Answer:

Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 and due to intruders having endangered the food resources of the Plains tribes.

Explanation:

The retaliation of red cloud and the Sioux Indians was as a result of Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 and due to intruders having endangered the food resources of the Plains tribes.

After gold was discovered in Montana, the U.S. Army built forts across Lakota hunting grounds, which led to the Bozeman Trail. with its connection to the Oregon Trail, results to miners, immigrants, settlers and wagon trains passing directly through the buffalo feeding areas, which led to damaging the food resources of the Plain Tribes .

Hence, Red Cloud, together with Sioux Indians refused to sign a non-aggression treaty which will allow passage across their lands from Fort Laramie to the gold fields of Montana.

Therefore, various attacks were launched in retaliation against U.S army and settlers, whereby the native warriors employed guerilla tactics.
