Appeasement was a poor strategy for stopping German expansion because it increased the reckless behavior of Adolph Hitler.

Thanks the appeasement policy adopted by European nations in the late 1930's, Hitler was able to take control of new land that did not belong to Germany. This was known as the Munich Agreement. In this agreement, Germany gained control of part of Czechoslovakia. The European nations hoped that this would make Hitler happy so that he did not invade any other countries. Ultimately, countries like Great Britain, the US, and France negotiated this deal as a way to avoid another world war. However, this appeasement had the opposite effect. Hitler now realized that these countries were willing to give up land in order to avoid war. Hitler uses this to his advantage until World War II begins.
