Alliteration is the repetition of the same consonant sound in successive or closely associated syllables. It is usually used to provide a particular effect or tone. It can also be used to call attention to a particular group of words or to provide a rhythmic sound.

In this case, the repetition of the hard sounding "d" is meant to create a feeling of excitement and confusion.
