The correct answer is option C ("The short-lived nature of glory").

In this excerpt, the main theme is definitely pointing at <u>the brevity of the praise brought by athletic achievement</u>. We can see this idea illustrated more clearly in these lines <u>"Runners whom renown outran; And the name died before the man", "And find unwithered on its curls; The garland briefer than a girl's".</u>

Option A is incorrect because although death is present in the excerpt, the focus is not in its inevitability, but rather on the preoccupation with what we leave behind.

Option B is only partially true, as the author is more concerned with the fading of that fame and glory.

Finally, option D seems quite wrong given that the excerpt doesn't really deal with human love at all.

Hope this helps!

Which kind of complement is the underlined word? Joe built his son a workbench in the garage. A. indirect object B. direct objec
VLD [36.1K]
It depends on the word which is underlined (you didn't underline anything).
If the underlined word is <u>his son</u>, then the correct answer is indirect object. If the underlined word is <u>a workbench</u>, then the correct answer is direct object.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN:
sashaice [31]
So I’m not entirely sure if I have this right, but the way I interpret this is “let the figuratively dead people bury the literally dead people. In other words, people who aren’t high in society and aren’t really capable of doing anything else should be burying the other dead people who would be seen as equally incapable.
