The colonial rule occurred because of the competition from the countries of Europe that controlled Africa. Initially, the control was limited to the authorities who secured the loyalty of the African kings and chiefs. This means that the chiefs were required to trade with the colonial government only. However, towards the closure of the 19th century, the colonial government started to play active roles in the affairs regarding Africans. Through this diverse African government adopted the rules and implemented them up to now.
