How did the headright system benefit planters?

The headright system solved the problem of plantation labor as it led to merchant plantation owners investing in bringing  as many servants into the colony as land grant was based on the number of arrivals and servants one would bring to the colony. its chief aim was to populate the colony and especially Virginia.
