A stoa<span>, in </span>ancient Greek architecture<span>, is a covered walkway or </span>portico<span>, commonly for public use. Early stoas were open at the entrance with columns, usually of the </span>Doric order<span>, lining the side of the building; they created a safe, enveloping, protective atmosphere.</span>
