The intolerable acts where when the British passed a few laws in revenge for the Boston Tea Party.This involved a closing down all ports in Boston and ordered them to pay for the compensation for it.Amd general Gage closed down the local assembly after the refusal to pay the money.

So the colonists were obviously not happy and they what they did was they boycotted the British goods and armed their militias.
The militias were first people prepared to fight the French and Indians but now they were being prepared to fight the British.They were called minutemen as they were ready for battle at a minutes notice.
