I think persuade will me an answer as well since the author is giving you an interesting and persuasive that will make you want to read the essay or the book
Just a simple thank you, if someone does something nice for you, keeping your elbows off the table at dinner, not eating loud and messy. these are most common ways of expressing good manners.
