The Chinese Civil War lasted from 1927 to 1950. Two times the Civil War was interrupted, in 1936 when Japan invaded China and in World War II.  

The Civil War conflict was between the Nationalist government of China and the Communist Party of China. In October of 1949, the Communist Party declared victory capturing Beijing.

The other options of the question were b) people in urban areas would probably be unhappy, but people in the countryside would be benefited, c) European influence in China might have begun to diminish, and d) The Republic of China would be much smaller and the People's Republic of China would be much larger.
