These Native American tribes had the misfortune of being some of the first to come into close contact with European settlers, as they lived in the New England colony area, this led them to be ravaged by illnesses such as smallpox and measles. The Pequot War was the final turning point when the war resulted in the near extinction of the Pequots. The other tribes would began to experience the same issues as European settlers began to expand beyond territories agreed upon in the various treaties with the tribes, resulting in conflicts with these tribes.
