Women were not allowed to be important people or roles in the church because they were considered unimportant and were meant to stay home and cook,clean,and watch the children.
Women were looked at as a cause of sin, even though the doctrine said they were viewed as equal. Many went into monasteries to prove their worth, devotion, virtue and to ensure the survival of their families and their souls. They were treated as were treated as inferior to men.
Well, since one of the goals listed in the Preamble is to, "for a more perfect union," then perhaps it is that freedom of speech would help that goal of unifying the nation.
