The connotations od aloof and distant are quite negative. This is because when someone is speaking to you and they do not appear interested and vague, it can be insulting and hurtful. This is due to how people want what they are saying to be worthwhile and if the listener does not care or isn't paying attention, it is very negative and upsets us.
