In many ways, total war, which really began with World War I, employed every single aspect of a nations economy for the first time since all efforts went towards the war. This was "full war mobilization".

The concept of total war can destroy or help a warring countries economy. The warring country will see an increase in jobs and work because of being at war, but if they lose the war the economy will suffer. Ex: women became a significant part of the work force since they replaced the men at war

When early labor organizations brought together staff (workers) in the same trade/job to fight for better wages and some better working conditions as they all work together. The "unions" method for setting all their demands set is that they would force workers to work until all of the demands are correct/met.
